Welcome to

The Castle

The Castle at Great Leighs is a country pub restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character.

About us

Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect back drop for savouring the hearty seasonal pub food on our menus and the carefully nurtured matured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. The Castle at Great Leighs (formerly St Anne’s Castle) is situated between Braintree and Chelmsford and has stood on the site for hundreds of years. The Castle is steeped in spooky local legends, also tells that the inn is haunted by the troubled spirit of a witch Anne Hughes burned at the stake and buried beneath a stone at the nearby crossroads which is located in the entrance to the car park.
